Plagiarism Policy

The Aceh International Journal of Geography and Environmental Education Research (AIJGEER) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and ethics. To ensure originality and prevent unethical practices, all submissions are checked for plagiarism and self-plagiarism as part of the journal's editorial and peer-review process.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism occurs when an author uses another person’s work, ideas, or text without proper acknowledgment or citation, whether intentionally or unintentionally. This includes:

  1. Copying text, images, or data from another source without proper citation.
  2. Reproducing substantial parts of another's work, even with minor changes.
  3. Self-plagiarism: Republishing one’s own previously published work or reusing parts of a previous manuscript without proper acknowledgment.

Plagiarism Screening Process

  1. Initial Screening:
All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate before they undergo peer review. Any manuscript found to have a similarity index exceeding the acceptable threshold (less than 20% excluding references) will be returned to the author for revision or rejection.

  2. During Review and Publication:
Reviewers and editors are encouraged to identify potential plagiarism that might not have been detected during initial screening. Any suspected cases will be investigated thoroughly.

Actions Taken in Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is identified at any stage:

  1. Minor Overlap (Similarity < 20%): The manuscript may be returned to the authors for proper citation or rephrasing.
  2. Significant Overlap or Intentional Plagiarism:
    • Rejection of the manuscript.
    • Notification to the author(s) and, if applicable, their institution(s).
    • A ban on future submissions to the journal for a specified period.
  3. Post-Publication Plagiarism:If plagiarism is discovered after publication:
    • The article may be retracted, with a retraction notice published in the journal.
    • The authors' institution(s) may be informed of the misconduct.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that their submissions are entirely original and properly cite all sources.
  2. Avoiding self-plagiarism by not reusing parts of their previously published work without explicit acknowledgment.
  3. Submitting manuscripts that adhere to the journal’s ethical and academic standards.

Editorial Commitment

AIJGEER follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for handling cases of plagiarism and unethical behavior. The journal is dedicated to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that all published articles meet the highest ethical standards.
