Identifying Target Task for Material Development in Designing Digital Translation Module

Abstract


The purposes of this study are to investigate the types of tasks required by students for learning translation, and to find the target tasks to create a digital translation Module. It was survey research employing translation teachers and fourth-year students who had previously learned translation as research participants. The questionnaire and an interview were used to obtain data. The study's findings assigned seven types of tasks required by students that was reflecting a pedagogical sequence for introducing task-based language teaching. Likewise, students agreed if there was a digital module linked to the teachers’ materials. The project of creating a learning module for the Translation course is immensely interesting to the teachers, as it is to the students. According to the teacher, the following target tasks need to be considered while creating a digital translation module: (1) The module is designed to effectively archive student assignments in providing the most comprehensive and precise feedback. (2) The module allows students to practice the language in an authentic and communicative setting that is enhanced by technology. (3) The module has a substantial impact on language acquisition and motivates learners through task activities and achievements. (4) Throughout the process, the module encourages students to complete tasks in pairs or small groups and compare the result with other pairs or the same group. (5) The module incorporates visual aids, signals, and theories, as well as particular guidance and orientation, as well as positive and corrective feedback.
