STUDENT RECEPTION OF SHORT STORIES: A CHARACTER RECEPTION STUDY

Abstract


The problem in this research was the reception of students towards the characters in the short story of Mata yang Enak Dipandang by Ahmad Tohari.  The purpose of this study was to describe the student’s reception of Mata yang Enak Dipandang short story by Ahmad Tohari. This study used a qualitative descriptive study. The results showed that students recept the facts of the story in the short story. The student recepted characters is based on three aspects attached, namely the physical, psychological, and sociological. At the groove reception, overall student claimed that the plot is very nice and very fit so as to make the reader interested and curious to read it. At the background reception, students recept the background of place, time, and social. This study was implicated in the design of learning and teaching materials.
