THE PATTERN OF PLOT AND CONFLICT IN THE CHILDREN’S SCIENCE COMICS SURPRISING SCIENCE VIRUS BY KIM JI AE AND KIM JU HEE

Abstract


This study aims to describe and analyze the pattern of plot and the types of conflicts that are used in the Surprising Science Virus comics written by Kim Ji Ae and Kim Ju Hee. The approach of study is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis method. The data source is Surprising Science Virus which is written by Kim Ji Ae and Kim Ju Hee. The objects are dialogues from chapter one and the form of story descriptions in the data source by describing the flow and conflict. The technique of analysis is a qualitative descriptive technique. The results of the study show that (1) the pattern of plot that is used in this study is the pattern of beginning-middle-end and flashback plot; (2) conflicts of study are external and internal conflicts. Thus, it can be concluded that Kim Ji Ae as the story writer chose to use the initial of pattern of beginning-middle-end and the writer also uses flashback plot for several times in order to make readers easier. Kim Ji Ae also considers the easiness that can be offered to the children’s readers so that it becomes more understandable.
