Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process and policy
- The submitted manuscript will be peer-reviewed according to the internationally accepted ethical standards of scientific publication.
- Editor in Chief will receive the manuscript. The Editor in Chief will decide on one of the members of the section editor to be the editor of the manuscript based on a field study of the manuscript (section editor member's field of expertise).
- Authors should receive acknowledgment of receipt of their manuscript after one to two weeks of submission.
- Linguistically weak manuscripts will immediately be rejected (e.g., when the language is inadequate and one cannot be understood what the authors mean). The authors should pay attention to this matter before submitting their manuscripts, which will assist the review process and publication if they are acceptable.
- The editor will examine the manuscript based on the manuscript selection criteria script and determine whether the manuscript is Accepted or Rejected. If the manuscript does not meet the selection criteria, it will be rejected, and the editor will send it back to the author. The authors can resend it to the journal after correcting the manuscript based on the selection criteria. If the manuscript meets the selection criteria, the editor will forward it to the reviewers to be reviewed between the first received paper and the time to send it to the reviewers.
- There will be a minimum of two referees (reviewers) who will examine the paper. The reviewers will review the manuscript based on the Review Form and their expertise in the field of study. The review process takes about 3 - 4 weeks after the reviewer receives the manuscript, and the editor is responsible for the process.
- The reviews will be returned to the editor whether accepted with major revision, minor revision, or rejected. Based on two or three review results, the editor decides whether the manuscript is accepted with major revision, minor revision, or rejected.
- If the manuscript is accepted with minor revision, the author has to revise it within two weeks. If the manuscript is accepted with major revision, it has to be sent back to the reviewers.
- If the manuscript is accepted with minor revision, the author has to revise it within two weeks. If the manuscript is accepted with major revision, it has to be sent back to the reviewers.
- After the layout process, the journal is ready to be published.

Publication Ethics
International Journal of Disaster Management (IJDM) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures to prevent any publication malpractice. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the most important responsibilities of the editorial board. IJDM Editorial Board does not tolerate any unethical behavior and does not accept plagiarism in any form.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to IJDM should ensure that their content is original and has not been previously published elsewhere. They must guarantee that all authors have significantly contributed to the research submitted in the manuscript. The authors must also disclose any and all actual or potential conflicts of interest with the work or any partial benefits associated with it. They are responsible for ensuring that the manuscripts have been approved ethically, which means that no participants involved were harmed, physically or mentally, during the research. The results and the interpretation of the manuscripts should be accurate and unbiased, and the personal details of participants who have not agreed to be released should be fully anonymized.
Finally, authors should ensure that every manuscript submitted to the journal has been proofread and corrected for clarity, grammar, and spelling by a professional English editor. If authors discover any significant errors or inaccuracies after publication, they should promptly communicate them to the Editorial Board.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise in their respective fields. All submitted manuscripts are reviewed by at least two independent reviewers and our editorial staff. Peer reviewers assist the editor in making editorial decisions and, through the editorial communication with the author, help improve the manuscript. Peer review is a critical component of formal communication and is the heart of the scientific method. Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown to or discussed with others, except as authorized by the editor.
Reviewers should be objective in their judgments and have no conflict of interest regarding the research, authors, or research funders. Reviewers should complete the work promptly and should notify the editor if they cannot complete the work.
Editorial Responsibilities
The editor of IJDM is responsible for deciding which manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published. Each editor must ensure that each manuscript is initially evaluated for originality. Following desk review, the manuscript is forwarded to the editorial review board, which will recommend whether to accept, reject, or modify the manuscript. Editors' decisions should be communicated to authors, accompanied by reviewers' comments, and should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
Finally, if a manuscript submitted by authors could create a perception of a conflict of interest in relation to the editor, the editor should declare a potential conflict of interest and hand over the submission process to another member of the editorial board. Such situations could arise in cases of close friendship, co-authorship, or conflict/rivalry.
Author Fees
Author Fees International Journal of Disaster Management charges Article Publishing Charges (APCs) to cover the costs associated with the publication process. The APC for Indonesian authors is 1500000.00 (IDR), and for international authors, the APC is USD 150.00.
Authors are required to pay the APCs as part of the publication process. Payment can be made through bank transfer (for both national and international authors) or PayPal (for international authors).
Article Processing Charge Waiver Policy
IJDM is fully open access and requires Article Processing Charge (APC) to be paid following acceptance. To help support researchers who are unable to meet some or all the costs associated with publishing open access, IJDM operates a transparent waiver policy.
IJDM policy adheres to Research4Life’s best practice guidelines for waiver policies – ensuring researchers from low-to-middle income countries can easily understand what automatic support for article processing charges is available to them.
Qualifying for a waiver
To help support researchers in low-to-middle income countries, IJDM automatically provides full and partial waivers of article processing charges for manuscripts based on the corresponding author's listed affiliation. Authors do not need to request this waiver; they will be applied at submission.
Our waiver policy follows a two-tier approach:
- Countries in Research4Life’s “Group A” (listed below) will receive a full (100%) waiver of article processing charges
- Countries in Research4Life’s “Group B” (listed below) will receive a partial (50%) waiver of article processing charges
If an author group from a non-Research4life country cannot afford the APC to publish an article in IJDM and they can demonstrate they have had no research funding, we will consider individual waiver requests on a case-by-case basis.
