Mapping the landscape of community flood resilience research: A bibliometric analysis
Abstract
Community flood resilience (CFR) has become an important research theme as floods become more frequent and severe. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of CFR publications indexed in Scopus between 2000 and 2025. It examines publication trends, leading sources, and the evolution of research themes. The results show a sharp increase in CFR publications after 2015, in line with the adoption of the Sendai Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals. Research has shifted from technical and hydrological perspectives toward governance, social vulnerability, and community participation, showing the growing interdisciplinary nature of the field. The analysis also highlights the concentration of knowledge production in a small number of countries and journals, with limited contributions from the Global South despite their high exposure and vulnerability to flood hazards. This study provides an overview of how CFR research has developed, identifies gaps in regional representation and thematic coverage, and suggests directions for more inclusive and impactful resilience strategies in the future.
