Abstract

Base Isolation is a technology for protecting structures and has proven its efficiency as earthquake protection in the last few decades. This system aims to isolate the structure from the supporting soil, generally in a horizontal direction, to reduce the transmission of earthquake movements to the structure. Most existing insulation systems are generally large, heavy, expensive, and not suitable for residential buildings or simple multi-story buildings. This study used modified Isolator from Recycled Waste Tires glued with steel plates to increase lateral loads with different thicknesses, layers, and brands of recycled tires. Thus, this research aims to investigate the potential of using modified recycled waste tires as an earthquake-resistant system in low-rise buildings in earthquake-prone zones in Indonesia. Base Isolation will be prepared using rubber tire sheets bonded with steel plates to increase lateral loads and tested with compressive strength. The results obtained from BS-1, BS-2, and BS-3 are from the compressive strength test results, namely 76 MPa, 81.5 MPa, and 85.5 MPa. The results show that the layer and dimensions, the greater the compressive strength obtained is BS-3. By using this modified recycled tire, base isolation is made from materials that are easily available at an affordable cost and reduces the problem of tire disposal in the environment.
