Abstract

The coastal area of Banda Aceh is claimed as a vulnerable area to tsunami, including Meuraxa subdistrict, Peukan Bada sub-district and Jaya Baru sub-districts, which categorized as red zone for tsunami risk. One of the government's structural disaster mitigation efforts is to build the BPBA Evacuation Building in 2016. This study aims to identify the factors that influence community decisions in choosing tsunami evacuation routes to the BPBA Tsunami Evacuation Building at a radius of 2 km and to discover the probability of the community's demand in selecting tsunami evacuation routes based on the width of road. The Stated Preference technique is used to obtain data on factors that influence route selection decisions, which then modeled using the Discrete Choice Model. The data is processed by using binomial logit model, and analized by using Goodness of Fit test. Goodness of fit of the data is selected based on the criteria of logistic regression which consist of Rho square (ρ2) between 0-1, LR test sig ꭓ2 ≤ 5% andt test sig ≤ 5%. The results showed that the factors that influenced the community's decision in choosing tsunami evacuation routes in a 2 km radius from the BPBA evacuation building were age of individual, level of household income, number of car ownership, and type of evacuation route. Type of the evacuation route is assumed as familiar route to individuals. Understanding the factors influencing the individual decision of tsunami evacuation will enhance evacuation efforts and provide equal opportunity for people to reach designated safe zones in time.
