ANALISIS KINERJA SEISMIK SAMBUNGAN BALOK – KOLOM BAJA SISTEM HAUNCH PADA SUMBU MINOR KOLOM MELALUI PENDEKATAN NUMERIK

Abstract
The haunch connection is a widely used moment-resisting connection in Indonesia. However, this connection is not included in the recommendations of AISC 358-16 or SNI 7972-2020, raising concerns about its seismic performance. This study investigates the performance of haunch connections applied to the minor axis of columns through numerical analysis. The analysis is conducted using the finite element method with ABAQUS software, while the loading protocol follows the AISC 341-16 provisions. The seismic parameters analyzed include hysteresis behavior, failure modes, and energy dissipation. The results indicate that haunch connections do not meet the acceptance criteria of AISC 341-16. The hysteresis curves exhibit poor behavior, with inadequate strength that fails to meet the required standards. This issue arises due to undesirable deformation mechanisms that deviate from the intended structural performance. Additionally, the failure mode of the connection system does not conform to the desired failure hierarchy, as failure occurs within the column element. Furthermore, the energy dissipation capacity of the connection is inefficient, with most of the energy being absorbed by the column element. Therefore, haunch connections applied to the minor axis of columns are not recommended for use in seismic-resistant structures.
