Abstract

Patient satisfaction serves as a key indicator for evaluating the effeciveness of a healthcare system. Clear job description, formulated within a professional nursing care model, must be specifically adapted to the actual conditions of each healthcare facilitiy. To ensure consistent nursing services, a care method that involves nurses creating daily care plans, maintaining clear communication with patients, and following inter-team communication protocols must be implemented. The aim of this study is to analyze whether the implementation of a modified nursing care method impacts nurse performance and patient satisfaction.

The study utilized a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test without a control group. It was conducted in a private hospital in Indonesia, involving nurses working in the inpatient ward and their patients. Nurse were trained to apply a modified care method, which included distributing patient responsibilities based on the number of patients per specialist during a given shift. This methode was supported by the patient handover process, admission procedures, discharge preparation, nursing documentation, and supervison by the head nurse. Date were collected form nurses to assess performance and from patients to evaluate satisfaction. The study involved 30 nurses, selected through total sampling, and 180 patients, choses via accidental sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test for nurse performance and tha Mann-Whitney test for patient satisfaction.

Of the participating nurses, 66,7% were female, tih an age range of 18-45 years. Nurse performance improved from 76,7% to 100%, with a Wilcoxon test result of 0.008. Among the patients, the majority were also female, aged 19-45 years, and primarily treated unter national health insurance. Patient satisfaction increase from 89.48% to 100%, with a Mann-Whitney test result 0.000

The study demonstrates that implementing the modified nursing care method positively influences both nurse performance and patient satisfaction. Futue research could explore the method’s apllicability in other healthcare settings with varying resource and conditions.
