Abstract

Seagliders are unmanned underwater vehicles that can be controlled for various purposes, including scientific research, environmental monitoring, and even military operations. The illegal use of seagliders can pose maritime security challenges to Indonesia, such as threats of espionage and the collection of strategic data. This study aims to analyze the international legal approaches that Indonesia can apply to prevent potential threats, adhering to the principles of maritime sovereignty, sovereign rights in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), and United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982). This research employs a normative legal method with a legislative and conceptual approach, using secondary data obtained through library research. The findings indicate that the effective implementation of international law, combined with the strengthening of maritime surveillance technology, is crucial to safeguarding Indonesia's sovereignty and maritime security against threats posed by seagliders.
