The Implementation of Virtual Chemistry Practicum Modules in Teaching Colligative Properties of Solutions in Senior High Schools

Wina Aprillia, Kana Puspita

Abstract

The learning material on the colligative properties of solutions is often delivered using teacher-centered methods. However, technological advancements offer opportunities to enhance teaching approaches, one of which is the use of virtual-based chemistry practicum modules. At Senior High School Senior High School No. 1Seulimeum, chemistry practicum activities have not been conducted effectively, resulting in low student learning outcomes. This study aims to improve student achievement in understanding the colligative properties of solutions through the use of virtual-based chemistry practicum modules and to evaluate student responses to these modules. This research employs a qualitative method. The subjects of the study were 24 students from class XII IPA 1 during the 2021/2022 academic year. Data were collected through student learning outcome tests and response questionnaires. The analysis revealed that the use of virtual-based chemistry practicum modules resulted in an 83% improvement in student learning outcomes, categorized as very good. Student responses to the virtual-based practicum module, which utilized Videoscribe animations, were also highly positive, ranging from 88% to 100%, which falls within the very good category and indicates that the module is highly suitable for classroom teaching and learning. Based on these findings, the virtual-based chemistry practicum module is categorized as very good and highly effective, and is validated as an appropriate teaching material for students of class XII IPA 1.
