Studi Etnomatematika pada "Leusoung" Aceh: Penerapan Konsep Bola dalam Budaya Lokal

Abstract


This study aims to explore the application of mathematical concepts, particularly the concept of a sphere, within the local culture of Aceh through the tradition of “ leusoung”. Leusoung is a traditional tool used for pounding rice and other food ingredients, which intuitively involves geometric principles in its use. This research employs an ethnographic method with a qualitative approach, including direct observation, interviews with local communities, and a review of related literature. The findings indicate that leusoung, which takes the form of a hemisphere, exemplifies the application of geometric principles in everyday life. Additionally, leusoung has a strong social dimension, as it is used collectively in cultural and social activities, reflecting the relationship between mathematics and culture. This study suggests integrating ethnomathematics into the mathematics curriculum to make learning more contextual, as well as developing teaching materials that link mathematical concepts with local culture. Thus, leusoung is not only a traditional tool but also a source of learning that enriches our understanding of the relationship between mathematics and culture.
