Abstract

Abstract. Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is the fourth most common head and neck cancers in Indonesia. However, a detailed study of this malignancy has not been conducted at Dr. Ramelan Naval Central Hospital (RSPAL Dr. Ramelan), Surabaya. This descriptive study used medical records of newly diagnosed NPC patients registered in the ENT outpatient clinic at RSPAL Dr. Ramelan between October – December 2020. Patient’s characteristics including presented symptoms, clinical staging and histopathological subtypes were recorded and evaluated. Of the 22 NPC patients, two-thirds were males, more than half presented with the chief complaint of a lump in their neck, and almost all patients were already in the advanced stage. Histopathological findings showed the WHO III subtype was the commonest form of NPC. Therefore, early diagnosis is an important strategy to improves cancer therapy by providing the best care at the earliest possible stage.
