Abstract

Head injury is a condition that has an impact in the form of death and disability with an incidence that always increases every year. Head injury is a pathological condition in brain tissue not due to degenerative or congenital disease, but is caused by external mechanical forces, which cause physical, psychosocial and cognitive impairment. abnormalities that occur can be temporary or permanent, may be accompanied by loss of consciousness. Secondary injury is an injury that occurs due to various pathological processes that arise after primary brain damage in the form of edema, ischemia, bleeding, brain edema and ongoing neuronal damage. The inflammatory response after head injury begins with the activation of intracellular components leading to the brain parenchyma due to cell damage, cell cytokines and chemokines as well as peripheral immune cell reactions that enter the brain. These processes influence each other and create a complex interaction. Leukocytosis that occurs due to head injury is related to the degree of cell damage and brain edema.
