Abstract

Introduction   : Maternal mortality in Indonesia was caused by several major complications, including bleeding, infection, preeclampsia, eclampsia, unsafe abortion, and complications during labor. Preeclampsia was a complication in 2-5% of all pregnancies in the developing country. The mortality rate is approximately 76,000 maternal deaths and 500,000 fetal or newborn deaths each year worldwide.

Objective         : To determine the risk factors, complications and the postpartum outcomes of patients with severe preeclampsia in Arifin Achmad Regional Hospital from 2019 to 2022.

Methods           : This study is an study with a cross sectional design. Primary data were obtained from questionnaires that have been validated and secondary data through medical records.

Results              : The results showed that the characteristics of pregnant patients with preeclampsia included reproductive age (56.3%), ANC visits ≥4 times (56.3%), multigravida (51.6%) and obesity (62.5%). The risk factor that has a significant relationship with the incidence rate of severe preeclampsia is parity (P value 0,002). The most common maternal and neonatal complications due to severe preeclampsia were HELLP syndrome (32%) and IUFD (40%). The most common postpartum outcome was chronic hypertension (40%).

Conclusion          : Parity was a significant risk factor in cases of severe preeclampsia, the most common maternal complication was HELPP Syndrome with the most common neonatal complication was IUFD. Most common postpartum outcome was chronic hypertension.
