Abstract

Copyright which is part of intellectual property has a very close relationship to science and technology. One that utilizes technological developments is an event called karaoke night. This event is held by playing songs through music streaming media and then inviting the participants to sing along and participants pay a ticket to participate. The problem that often arises in this event is the use of songs and or music without permission. This unauthorized use is closely related to the principle of good faith. Based on this, the problem to be studied is the application of the principle of good faith to the use of music or songs without permission in karaoke night events in terms of law number 28 of 2014 concerning copyright. The research method used in this research is the normative juridical approach method with descriptive analysis research specifications. Based on the results of the study that the application of the principle of good faith in the karaoke night event has not gone well, because there are still organizers of karaoke night events that do not pay what is an obligation, namely royalty payments from songs and / or music. With the non-payment of royalties then it has violated the exclusive rights of copyrighted works. For legal protection for songwriters who feel harmed in the karaoke night event based on Act No. 28 Year 2014 on Copyright is adequate with dispute resolution through adjudication and non-adjudication
