PATTERN OF FOSTERING CHILDREN OF CRIMINAL OFFENDERS IN CLASS 1A TANJUNG GUSTA MEDAN PRISON

Abstract

Research reveals that the process of coaching child inmates at the Tanjung Gusta Children's Special Correctional Institution is carried out through personality development and independence, with a focus on mental and ethical development so that children can become whole, pious, and responsible individuals for themselves, their families, and society. This development includes the improvement of skills and talents to ensure that learners have adequate skills and can play the role of responsible members of society after the correctional period. However, the Tanjung Gusta Class I Special Children's Institution faces various obstacles, including normative/juridical aspects related to the lack of special regulations regarding the development of children in correctional institutions, as well as internal obstacles such as limited facilities and infrastructure as well as problems with coaching/educator factors. On the other hand, external obstacles include a lack of cooperation with related agencies in the field of coaching and education and low awareness of the community and organizations towards the needs of coaching. To overcome these problems, it is recommended to increase the provision of facilities and infrastructure, establish cooperation with related parties such as the Job Training Center, and involve religious leaders to support the coaching process.
