Peer Review Process
DEPIK has adopted the double-blind review process, where the editor will internally review every submitted manuscript before sending it to independent (external) reviewers.
The authors are welcome to suggest at least three potential reviewers and their names, affiliations, expert fields, and email addresses. However, determining the appropriate reviewers is the editor's right. The approved gallery proof of the manuscript will be available for early viewing online as early as possible upon receipt from the author and final proofreading by the editor in chief.
Publication Frequency
Depik is published one volume and three issues a year in April, August, and December (2012-2024) and in March, June, September and December (Starting on 2025).
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There is no publication free for authors and readers.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Publication Ethics and Malpractices
Publication Ethics and Malpractices Guidelines of DEPIK Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Perairan, Pesisir dan Perikanan
Journal is a peer-reviewed journal to publish articles in the field of Aquatic, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Limnology, Oceanography, Hydrology, Coastal, and Climatology. Depik Journal is committed to the ethical standards set for all entities involved in the publication of the article.
Responsibilities Depik Journal Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Editor-in-Chief Editor
Liabilities:
The Depik Journal has an editorial team consisting of an editor-in-chief, a managing editor, and a board of editors. They are all required to be accountable and responsible editors for publishing the Depik Journal article. The Depik Journal editors led by the editor-in-chief. The Depik Journal editors have a duty and responsibility as follows:
- Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor accept articles submitted by the author to the Depik Journal.
- Articles submitted by the authors to the Depik Journal are distributed by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor to the editors on the Board of Editors for conducting the 1st review process (initial review). Distribution of the articles is well-regulated by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor, so workload can be fairly distributed in number to all editors. Review process of Depik Journal using a double-blind peer-review system, performed by using the Referee's Appraisal Form.
- In reviewing an article, the 1st review process is done by the editor (at point 2) as the first reviewer. Then, the editor sent the article to at least two external independent reviewers for the 2nd review process. The results of the review process are sent to the Editor-in-Chief or the Managing Editor. Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor makes the decision and sends it to the author with the article status being accepted, accepted with changes, or rejected.
- If changes are required as a outcome result of the review process on the article, the second round of review process (points 2 to 3) is taken into account.
- The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for determining the deadline for the receipt of articles that are ready for publication.
- The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for implementing and leading the editorial board meeting. Editorial board meetings are conducted at least once in each issue to finalize the issue for publication. If the Editor-in-Chief is absent, then the Editor-in-Chief can assign the Managing Editor or one of the editors to do the duties.
Justice:
A decision to publish an article is made through the mechanism of the peer-review process stated above, and it is taken into account based on the quality of the article. The decision was taken without considering the religion, ethnic origin, nationality, race, or gender of the author.
Confidentiality:
Confidentiality of the article before publication is maintained as well as possible. The Depik Journal editors cannot release any information available on the article to anyone except the author of the article. Information in a text can be released to others, the Depik Journal editor with the knowledge of the Editor-in-Chief, or the Managing Editor.
Disclosure and conflict of interest:
Articles and the materials related to the article that are not accepted for publication in the Depik Journal must be returned to the authors, and they cannot be used by the Depik Journal editors for any reason. To avoid conflicts of interest, the decision was taken that publishing the articles should be fair and based on the peer-review process.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions:
Evaluation Reviewers become the primary reference for the Editor-in-Chief in making editorial decisions. Evaluation results from the reviewers are intended to help the author improve the quality of the article.
Appropriateness:
Suppose there is an improper designation reviewer, for example. If the designated reviewer is not competent in the expertise of the article being reviewed, one of the Depik Journal editors can report it to the Editor-in-Chief or the Managing Editor. Then, the editor-in-chief or managing editor determines another reviewer, considering some editors with expertise in the article's subject.
Confidentiality:
Each article accepted by the reviewer must be strictly confidential. Article and peer-reviewed results should not be submitted directly to the author or communicated to anyone other than the author, but they must be submitted to the editor in charge, Editor-in-Chief, or the Managing Editor.
Responsibilities of Authors
Reporting standards:
Authors should present the objective and significance of the research in the article. The author should follow the Depik Journal guidelines when preparing the article to submit.
Originality:
Authors should prepare original research results that have not been published by other authors in any publication. To ensure this, the authors need to check the originality of the article using a plagiarism checker before submission. The article will be rejected if there is plagiarism in it. Any information from references used in the article should be honestly and accurately cited in the article.
Multiple Submissions:
The authors should submit their article to the Depik Journal only. When it is not accepted to publish in the Depik Journal due to peer review and officially reported by the Editor-in-Chief or the Managing Editor, the authors can submit it to another journal. The article will be rejected if there is plagiarism or multiple submissions.
Errors in Publication:
The authors will receive their article to conduct a final check for any errors in the article before publication. The authors should report any errors in the article to the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor within the given period, and the errors should be clearly listed and addressed in a separate sheet together with the evidence of revision.
Responsibilities of the Publisher
The Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries Syiah Kuala University as the publisher of Depik, encourages the editors and all bodies involved in publication processes to follow the ethics and code of conducts of every pparty The publisher defines the relationship between publisher, editor and other party in a contract, respect privacy, protects intellectual property and copyright, and fosters editorial independence.
Publishers work with journal editors to set journal policies appropriately and aim to meet those policies, particularly concerning editorial independence, research ethics, confidentiality, consent, and the special requirements for human and animal research, as well as authorship, transparency, and integrity.
Publisher works with journal editors to convey journal policies in general and review journal policies periodically, is responsible for the investigation of suspected research and publication misconduct and, where possible, facilitates the resolution of these cases, makes and publishes corrections, clarifications, and retractions, and publishes content on a timely basis.
Animal Ethics
The Depik Journal and its editors endorse the compliance of authors to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, which relate to the conduct of ethical research on human beings, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the Institute for Laboratory Animal Research of the National Research Council, which relate to the conduct of ethical research on laboratory and other animals.
Article Publication Charges
Authors of accepted papers are requested to arrange page charges for their paper at IDR 1,500,000 (USD 120) per article to cover the article processing and submission cost. There is no additional cost for a color figure. The invoice will be sent to the author. Extra sets of reprints may be ordered at the time of proof correction.

Declaration of Generative AI in Scientific Writing
Authors must declare the use of generative AI in scientific writing upon submission of the paper. The following guidance refers only to the writing process, and not to the use of AI tools to analyse and draw insights from data as part of the research process:
Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should only be used in the writing process to improve the readability and language of the manuscript.
The technology must be applied with human oversight and control, and authors should carefully review and edit the result, as AI can generate authoritative-sounding output that can be incorrect, incomplete, or biased. Authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the contents of the work.
Authors must not list or cite AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author on the manuscript since authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans.
The use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing must be declared by adding a statement at the end of the manuscript when the paper is first submitted. The statement will appear in the published work and should be placed in a new section before the references list.
