PEER REVIEW PROCESS

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Articles submitted to the JIPI (Jurnal IPA dan Pembelajaran IPA) will be processed through double-blind peer-review, by 2 (two) reviewers. Accepted articles will be available online after the journal's peer-review process is published. Since the June 2023 edition, this journal has only published articles written in English.

Manuscripts submitted to JIPI are reviewed initially by the main editor or are directly assigned by one of the editorial members to review them. If the manuscript does not meet the minimum requirements, it can be immediately rejected, whereas if the manuscript meets the requirements, it can be forwarded to the reviewer. Reviewers are selected by the lead Editor or editors based on their expertise, their availability, and to avoid potential conflicts of interest. Reviewers are asked to evaluate carefully and thoroughly whether the manuscript is scientifically sound, original, relevant, and clear. Next, does the manuscript writing correctly refer to previous work, and is the work really included in the scope of the journal?

All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing by at least two anonymous referees. The acceptance or rejection of articles will be decided by the editorial boards based on the review results supplied by the reviewers. There are no communications between authors and editors concerning the rejection decision. Authors whose papers are rejected will be informed with the reasons for the rejection.
All papers are fully peer-reviewed. We only publish articles that have been reviewed and approved by highly qualified researchers with expertise in a field appropriate for the article. We used double-blind peer-reviewing process. To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. Paper manuscripts that meet the requirements have all their identities removed by the main editor or member of the editor and then sent to the reviewer through the system.

Complete information regarding the publication process flow in the JIPI is presented in the following image.

Briefly, the workflow or steps are as follows:

  1. Manuscript Submission (by author) (route 1)
  2. Manuscript Check and Selection (by manager and editors) (route 2). Editors have a right to directly accept, reject, or review.
  3. Manuscript Reviewing Process (by reviewers) (route 3-4)
  4. Notification of Manuscript Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection (by editor to author based on reviewers comments) (route 5)
  5. Paper Revision (by author)
  6. Revision Submission based on Reviewer Suggestion (by author) with similar flow to point number 1. (route 1)
  7. If reviewer seems to be satisfied with revision, notification for acceptance (by editor). (route 6)
  8. Galley proof and publishing process  (route 7 and 8)

The steps point number 1 to 5 is considered as 1 round of peer-reviewing process (see yellow area in the figure). And, our reviewing process at least goes through 2 round of reviewing process.
The journal editor or editorial board considers the feedback provided by the peer reviewers and arrives at a decision. The following are the most common decisions:

  1. accept without any changes (acceptance): the journal will publish the paper in its original form
  2. accept with minor revisions (acceptance): the journal will publish the paper and asks the author to make small corrections
  3. accept after major revisions (conditional acceptance ): the journal will publish the paper provided the authors make the changes suggested by the reviewers and/or editors
  4. revise and resubmit (conditional rejection): the journal is willing to reconsider the paper in another round of decision making after the authors make major changes
  5. reject the paper (outright rejection): the journal will not publish the paper or reconsider it even if the authors make major revisions.

Manuscripts that are accepted for publication on JIPI undergo the final process as follows:

  1. The editor notifies the author through the system that the manuscript can be accepted for publication according to the available issue and is asked to complete his/her identity on the manuscript
  2. The editor carries out or assigns a proofreading team for the accepted manuscript
  3. The editor sends the final edited manuscript to the author to obtain approval for publication
  4. If the author has approved the manuscript to be published, then the editor sets up and prepares the manuscript file in PDF version, and publishes it

Publication of accepted manuscripts, including the order in which manuscripts are published, will be carried out by the main editor or member editors taking into account the order of acceptance dates and the geographic distribution of authors and thematic issues. The time required for the publication process of a paper submitted to JIPI is around 4 to 12 weeks from the date of submission of the manuscript until it is "online", with an average time of 8 weeks.
