Abstract: Contractors need to understand the components and factors that can affect the cost of field overhead in accordance with the type of construction work to be carried out. Ccontractors perceiption will influence in determining the appropriate mechanism to estimate and allocate sufficient funds for field overhead cost. This study aimed to identify the components of the field overhead cost and the factors that affect the cost of field overhead  on building construction projects, especially in the city of Banda Aceh. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 33 respondents representing contractors in Banda Aceh who have worked on building construction projects during fiscal year 2006-2011. The research concludes that the components of the field overhead cost consists of supervision and field staff, field office administration, construction, and temporary facilities, transportation, consumption, security, safety, quality control and testing. Factors that highly influence the field overhead cost are project location, duration and schedule of the project, size of project and the availability of funds contractor.

Abstrak: Kontraktor perlu memahami komponen dan faktor  yang dapat mempengaruhi biaya overhead di lapangan sesuai dengan jenis pekerjaan konstruksi yang akan dilaksanakan. Pemahaman kontraktor tersebut akan sangat berpengaruh dalam menentukan mekanisme yang tepat untuk mengestimasi dan mengalokasikan dana untuk mencukupi kebutuhan biaya overhead di lapangan.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi komponen-komponen biaya overhead lapangan dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi biaya overhead lapangan pada proyek konstruksi gedung terutama di Kota Banda Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuisioner kepada 33 responden yang mewakili perusahaan kontraktor di Banda Aceh yang pernah mengerjakan proyek konstruksi gedung pada tahun anggaran 2006–2011. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa komponen biaya overhead lapangan terdiri dari biaya pengawasan dan staf lapangan, administrasi kantor lapangan, konstruksi dan fasilitas sementara, transportasi, konsumsi, keamanan, keselamatan kerja, kontrol kualitas dan pengujian. Faktor –faktor yang sangat berpengaruh terhadap biaya overhead lapangan adalah lokasi proyek, durasi dan jadwal proyek, ukuran proyek dan ketersediaan dana kontraktor
